Langks is a project started by Kelsey De Silva in 2015 for a variety of reasons. Firstly, she was frustrated by the lack of decently priced, high-quality statement pieces available in stores or online. Secondly, she was exposed to the hardworking and talented jewelry artisans in Sri Lanka and knew she could provide a greater, far-reaching platform for them to exhibit their craft. And lastly, it’s embedded in her D.N.A. Her inclination to design jewelry is rooted in the fact that her great grandfather, Theodorus Weerasiri, designed jewelry for the British Crown in the late 1800s. Additionally, his talent was called upon to create a jewelry display at the 1904 World Fair in St. Louis, Missouri, becoming the first of Kelsey’s ancestors to go outside of Sri Lanka and travel to the western world.

Personal reasoning aside, Langks is created for no one in particular; there is no style mold or individual that this jewelry confines to. The goal of this jewelry is not to create style, but to provide an ingredient that allows the wearer to devise their own unique appearance.

Though designed by Kelsey, the jewelry was handcrafted by artisans in Sri Lanka. All three artisans are based in either Galle or Matara, the hometown of Kelsey’s father and mother respectively. The constructor of each individual piece is annotated below the jewelry images in the jewelry section of this website.

Langks hopes people draw inspiration from our jewelry and incorporate them into their own image.
